The role:
Management of reliable, high performance database management systems on premise and cloud-based to maximize effective and efficient 24x7 business operations for the Group's core business applications in support of profitable online and instore sales
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and comply with the Group’s Cybersecurity and PCI regulatory guardrails, policies, procedures, processes, and controls.
- Develop operational processes and procedures for database management that ensure effective and efficient 24x7 IT operations.
- Develop rigorous “best practice” recommendations to improve database administration and performance on all levels.
- Collaborate with software engineering departments to improve database design, manage risk, and bolster effectiveness.
- Design, install, configure, patch and upgrade SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, DB2 and PostgreSQL database systems on Unix, Linux, and Cloud platforms.
- Manage the development, testing and production database environments and related applications.
- Manage the backup and restoration of all databases.
- Advanced troubleshooting including debug performance issues and recommend performance improvements.
- Implementation and management of all aspects of capacity planning, performance monitoring and tuning of relational databases.
- Develop, implement, and audit database security.
- Develop and implement highly available, secure, high performance database environments.
- Liaise with application users to confirm requirements for system, backup and other requirements.
- Develop policies and procedures governing corporate database operations and related issues.
- Refresh non-production databases.
- Develop collateral for presentation to executives explaining capacity and performance forecasts.
- Participate in rotating four week on-call roster.
Preferred Experience/Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in IT.
- 5+ years of experience specialising in large corporate databases.
- Tertiary qualifications in IT or a related discipline.
- Advanced skills in more than one major corporate databases both on premise and cloud-based such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL.
- Advanced skills in associated database programming languages such as PL/SQL, SQL.
- Working knowledge in one or more major operating system platforms such as Windows, Unix, and Cloud.
- Experience with Azure, OCI, GCP and AWS public clouds.
- Some experience with Storage, Backup and UNIX technologies beneficial.
- Strong written and verbal skills, ability to communicate complex analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Working knowledge of the technical and regulatory aspects of global and local Data Security and PCI frameworks and industry standards
